Geocache Description:

A Park and Short Stroll! Or a longer stroll along the cliff top at Bispham. To celebrate my good lady's birthday on the 9th of February. A magnetic nano.

It’s from this area that the height provides spectacular views of the sea, along the coast to Cleveleys and on a clear day you can see Heysham, Barrow and the Lake District beyond, and right out to the horizon – especially in the evening when the fabulous sunsets of the west coast light up the Isle of Man and the windfarms.

The lower promenade from Gynn Square through to Anchorsholme as you approach Cleveleys is a typical concrete sea defence, with a sheer wall and steps down to the beach at regular intervals.

At high tide and in bad weather, the steps are chained off with warning notices, and it’s along here that the force of the sea is the mightiest and most dangerous. There are some spectacular views of rough weather to be had here, and nothing looks more impressive than the water bashing high in the air creating twinkling spray, particularly on a sunny day. If you do decide to wave watch, do it from the safety of the footpath on the upper seafront walkway – many people have lost their lives over the years by being pulled into the sea at Blackpool.

It’s a sheer vertical drop from the top footpath to the lower promenade, some of which is grassed and some is rretained with concrete. There are zig-zag footpaths for you to make your way up and down the hill and make the climb a little easier! Look more closely and you’ll see that despite the hostile conditions, the grassy bankings are actually home to some native wild flowers and plants, and along with other species you’ll spot sea campion, sea thrift and even bluebells growing there.

Along the side of the main coastal road and tramway, you can enjoy the promenade walkway and footpath which runs all the way along the coast from Lytham to Fleetwood. Separated from the traffic, it’s a safe route where children and dogs can enjoy some freedom, and there’s a separately marked cycle way and footpath on the shared tarmac path. This is the path required to find the cache.

There are shelters and benches along the way, and at Bispham itself you’ll find a seating area which is a handy spot to enjoy your seaside fish and chips, plus a children’s play area and public toilets. This is a very popular spot during the illuminations, and as the start of the Lights show it's always busy!

Congrats to Quirky Diva for the FTF
