Geocache Description:

What a year! It doesn't seem long ago that I was with Simon in March 2014 when I mentioned geocaching, a term I vaguely heard through work colleagues. We began looking into it and before we knew it Marky1981 and SimeyBop set off in search of a geocache in Graves Park. Little did we know we'd be instantly hooked! So here we are a year later. After going to events and chatting to other cachers, we decided to host our very own on the caching anniversary weekend right where it began!

The Event

Join us for some GeoChat in the Rose Garden Café in Graves Park on Saturday 7th March between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Everyone is welcome! There’s a large eating area and coffee lounge offering a variety of hot and cold drinks, ciabatta sandwiches, baguettes, all-day breakfasts, confectionery, pastries, ice creams and cakes. Dog walkers and families are welcome in the café. If it’s warm, there’s seating available outside on the Rose Garden Terrace. The facilities are child friendly and offer disabled access.

There will be a log book for you to sign, and a container for discovering, dropping off, picking up and swapping Travel Bugs and Geocoins.

We also plan to have a brand-new cache to be found close by, which will be published during the event and located within the park. Call it a shared cache, for all those that attend the event, and maybe it will have another clue to add to those from our other caches, one that you may need in the future!

Afterwards why not grab a few caches in Sheffield’s largest park, visit the animal farm, home to some of the rarest breeds of farm animals in the country, or take your kids to the new playground.

The Park

Graves Park, a landscape of large gently sloping fields and formal parkland fringed by steep-sided valleys of woodland is located three miles south of Sheffield city centre, and at 87 hectares, it is the city's largest public park with four main areas of parkland: Norton Park, Deer Park, Old Park and North Croft and three woods: Cobnar Wood, Waterfall Wood and Summerhouse Wood. There is a stream running through the park which feeds three small lakes before cascading through the parks woodlands and joining a tributary of the Sheaf at Woodseats.
