St Katherine's Church Chiselhampton
St Katherine's is an unspoiled and unaltered Georgian chapel built in 1762. A neoclassical building whose architect is unknown, it has a bell-turret and ornate clock over the west door. The interior is fitted with box pews, a west gallery on Tuscan columns, a carved altarpiece and a Jacobean pulpit which is presumed to have been re-used from St. Mary's chapel. In 1952-54 the church was restored after an appeal for funds supported by the poet John Betjeman, who loved St Katherine's and who wrote a rather long poem in it's honour. The west end of this unusual little church is approached through two gate posts directly from the main road. Mostly kept locked, keys for a visit can usually be obtained form the house next door, or from local Pub, half a mile or so back up the road.
Parking apart, this is a simple Cache & Dash. Parking is in a small layby immediately in front of the Church. But please be very careful as there is much fast moving traffic along this stretch of the B480. It is best that you approach from the direction of Oxford, as the Church will then be on the same side of the road as your direction of travel. You are looking for a medium sized Cache, suitable for small TBs and trinkets. Please replace with care as found.
Congratulations to Team MMK for an early FTF.
