The first moose I ever saw was in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. I was walking on a trail after hiking to a waterfall. I spotted something dark in the woods and wandered off trail to get a closer look. After a couple of minutes, I saw it! I could barely see a moose through the thicket. I walked around a bit and then had a clearer view. This cache is similar. From certain angles it will be tough to see within the thicket. However, as you get closer it will be right up under your nose.

Moose in Rocky Mountain National Park are Shiras Moose. These are the smallest among the moose in North America. They weigh between 600 and 1,200 pounds and stand up to 7 feet tall at the shoulder. Moose are found in forests and are never too far from lakes, ponds, streams or swamps. The water provides them a place to cool off, fight off biting insects, and vegetation that they like to eat. Moose are often found in these bodies of water and they even go under to eat vegetation along the bottom.
