Welcome to the adventure..
So here is what is involved.
To complete this cache you will require yourself and three friends. All four of you will require a mobile device with location capabilities and web-browsing capabilities. You will need to make sure that location services are turned on for not just your device, but also enabled for your web browser. You will also need to make sure that all four devices are fully charged as this will take a few hours to complete and may test the battery life of some devices.
This is more than just a mob cache though, this is a new concept. It’s kind of like blending a mob-cache and an intercache together. (An intercache is similar to a where-i-go, but uses a web browser site, rather than a cartridge).
For simplicity I have termed this as a “multi-player-intercache”. It is essentially 4 intercaches which are run on four separate devices at the same time. The intercaches interact with each other as the player of one intercache discovers information and must relay it on to the player of another intercache so that they are able to complete their intercache, and vice versa. All four intercaches are required to be run at the same time. At the beginning you will all be invited to select one of four intercaches (or characters). It does not matter who selects which one, as long as every one of the four intercaches is being played at the same time. If you have more than four players in your group, that is fine if multiple people select the same intercache. But if you have less than four people in your group, then you will not be able to run all of the intercaches simultaniously and you will not be able to complete this cache.
Each intercaches will lead each player to various different parts of Casey Fields to gather information, I would suggest taking a notepad to record this information. At times the intercaches will lead two different players to the same point where you will need to meet and swap information to be able to continue each journey on. If any piece of information is not recorded, or remembered and is unable to be passed on to the player who requires that information, then that players will not be able to continue their journey on and ultimately the whole team will not be able to complete the cache. So be warned, take notes!!!!!!
To begin with you will need to all arrive at the posted co-ordinates with your devices. Once you have four devices ready to go, you will all need to carry out the below instructions on all devices:
- Navigate to https://geotrailsw.com/mob/ on your browser.
- Verify that the accuracy displayed is reasonable (hopefully less than 40 feet or so.)
- When asked which mob you're attending, enter 1477.
- On the next screen, the system will tell you how many out of four devices have connected.
- To connect, a device will need to be within 66 feet (20 meters) of the given starting co-ordinates of this cache.
- Once that counter is up to four connected devices, the app will display the instructions for you to follow. You will be lead to a container, inside are the names of four characters with four corresponding QR codes. Sort out amongst yourselves who is to play who and scan the QR code that is relevant to the character you have been allocated. Your intercache will then load up and you will need to follow the instructions.
Gather the information that the intercache leads you to, meet up with the other players when the intercache leads you to meeting points. If everyone else is doing the same then you should have no trouble answering the tricky questions.
Providing all goes well, in a little while your intercaches will all lead you to the same spot. You will each be asked a series of three different questions on your device. If you and your team mates have all been observant, then you should soon have the cache in hand. If one piece of information has been missed, or not recorded properly, then all four of you will be back at the beginning again.
Just finally, a word on possible things to watch out for. Intercaches are similar to a where-i-go in the way that they work, except if the web browser is closed down, and re-booted, it will not remember where it is up to. If this happens, you will need to start all over again. During testing, I was able to complete all of the intercaches using an iphone 3G. I found that it became quite impossible when the accuracy jumped above 20m, but most of the time I was able to keep it under 10m. At times it froze and I am not sure if that is the fault of the site, or my phone, but I found that by disabling and then re-enabling Location Services on my phone, it would soon bring the accuracy down to a manageable level.
