Easy to find ammo can. Park within 120 feet of cache. Please rehide cache well as visitors will be looking at everything. Be careful when retrieving the cache as there are no doubt rattlesnakes in the area.
Interesting, well preserved old lime kiln, surrounded by tufa formations that were obviously underwater many years ago. Go about 20 feet toward the kiln from the cache to see the neat tufa formation. Rusted artifacts are scattered all around the area. The products of the kiln were transported by wagon to the Bodie and Benton railway which ran nearby, and carried lumber from the Mono mill site 20 miles south of here (on Hwy 120 East) up to the Bodie mines. The railroad climbed 1600 feet in only ten miles, which is a steep grade for a railroad. It was a narrow gauge RR to allow for tight turns. Original contents are a '67 Chevelle Hot Wheels, colored side walk chalk, a calculator, audio CD of facts about Hwy 395 (wrapper signed by Tim Taylor who is one of many people on the CD), an Ike dollar coin and a John Adams dollar coin. The best way to get to the cache is to turn North onto Cottonwood Canyon road from Hwy 167 (7 miles East of Hwy 395). At about 2 miles, turn right (East) onto a very good dirt road, called Dobie Meadows road on my NUVI car GPS. After you find the cache, if you continue east it will take you back to Hwy 167.
