TREES FOR LIFE
TREES
Trees just stand around all day
and sun themselves and rest.
They never walk or run away
and surely that is best.
For otherwise how would a
squirrel or robin find its nest?

Fallen trees provide a fantastic array of “microhabitats”. There is a breathtaking range of saproxylic (deadwood dependent) organisms including fungi, lichens, invertebrates, mosses and birds. Among the invertebrate, specialist beetles are particularly well represented. It is said that there is more life in a dead tree than a living one.
