Geocache Description:


This is the inaugural cache in the newest Ross County Nature Preserve....Metahqua! Metahqua is a 234 acre farm donated by Elizabeth Kitchen to the Ross County Park District to be used as a nature preserve. The property is located on Walnut Creek Road in Harrison Towrnship, Ross County Ohio. The area has a very unique and wide range of habitat that includes a large pond, tall grass fields, creek bottom fields and upland forest. Also on the property is a 100 year old schoolhouse that had been converted into a residence. The love for the land by this forward thinking philanthropist is very apparent as you walk the land and the meticulous care that was taken to insure a wide variety of habitats for birds and wildlife. The caretaker has told us an eagle occasionally comes by to snatch a meal from the pond. The large upland fields are favorite “singing” grounds for area woodcocks. There are three historical trails: Faraway Trail, Old Cannon Trail and Old Wagon Trail that are planned to be turned into walking trails.
