Visit the small town of Kastav, which once more – together with the neighbouring municipalities of Viškovo, Matulji and Čavle – hosts the Kastav Blues Festival. This is the biggest event of this kind in Croatia, which brings together some of the world's most eminent blues musicians. The festival was established in honour of "Philadelphia" Jerry Ricks, one of the most prominent representatives of traditional blues, who chose Kastav as his final resting place.
The town of Kastav was built on a 365 m high hill overlooking the Kvarner Bay in the northern part of the Adriatic coast. It is situated in the vicinity of Rijeka, the largest port in Croatia, and the Opatija Riviera, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. N 45 22, xxx E 014 20, xxx Krajem ožujka 2007. godine put je doveo u Kastav američkog blues glazbenika Philadelphia Jerry Ricksa kojem se nova sredina toliko svidjela da se odlučio nastaniti u Kastvu odakle je narednih mjeseci odlazio na brojne nastupe u Hrvatskoj i inozemstvu.Jerry je uskoro postao omiljen među lokalnim stanovništvom i godilo mu je kada su ga u šali nazivali crnim Kastavcem. Nedugo nakon što mu je u ljeto 2007. godine dijagnosticirana teška bolest Jerry Ricks umro je i za posljednje počivalište odabrao upravo Kastav.Budući da je Philadelphia Jerry Ricks bio jedan od najeksponiranijih predstavnika tradicionalnog bluesa (country-blues) i posljednja živuća veza sa tzv. prvom generacijom blues glazbenika, odnosno onom koja je izgradila temelje suvremene glazbe, rodila se ideja o organizaciji memorijalnog blues festivala koji bi u Kastav privlačio glazbene sladokusce, turiste i sve one znatiželjnike koji uobičajeno pohode slična zbivanja u svijetu.Temeljem dobrih odnosa sa European Blues Association (EBA), najvećom europskom organizacijom za promociju bluesa, kastavski blues festival održava se neposredno nakon Blues Week-a, godišnje manifestacije u organizaciji EBA, što omogućava visoku razinu u organizacijskoj i programskoj domeni.
Kastav je sazdan na 365 metara visokome brijegu ponad Kvarnera, na sjevernome Jadranu. U neposrednoj je blizini Rijeke i Opatijske rivijere. Izdignut iznad gradske vreve, Kastav je tijekom dugih stoljeća, hodeći ukorak s vremenom, očuvao svoju bogatu povijest, brojne vrijedne arhitektonske i druge spomenike, kulturu i tradiciju, netaknutu prirodu. Kastav nudi sve – od kvalitetnih glazbenih i scenskih uprizorenja do pučkih veselica i karnevalskih fešti, od rekreacije u prirodi do obilaska muzeja i znamenitosti, uz vrhunske gastronomske i enološke užitke.
