In den Jahren des Ersten Weltkrieges war der Seikofel ein strategisch wichtiger Punkt der Dolomitenfront. Einige der Tümpel dieses Hochmoorgebietes entstanden durch Granateinschläge.
Der Seikofel ist auch Rückzugsgebiet des Auerhahns und anderer Wildtiere.
