Odcinek Wisły położony pomiędzy mostami Łazienkowskim i Siekierkowskim stanowi rejon ujęć wody. Znajdują się tu ujęcia wody komunalnej zarówno dla lewobrzeżnej, jak i prawobrzeżnej Warszawy. Pobór wody jest nadrzędną funkcją rzeki na tym odcinku i wszystkie prowadzone na nim działania są temu podporządkowane. Dlatego odcinkiem tym opiekuje się Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji (MPWiK).
Zespół ujęć składa się z ujęcia zasadniczego, znanego pod nazwą Gruba Kaśka oraz dobudowanych później sześciu ujęć uzupełniających, zlokalizowanych przy obu brzegach Wisły. Wszystkie są ujęciami poddenymi i działają na zasadzie infiltracji. Woda jest pobierana z piaszczystej warstwy gruntów znajdujących się pod dnem rzeki, za pomocą systemu drenów o średnicy 300-400 mm, długości 100-400 m ułożonych na głębokości 4-7 m poniżej dna i wobec tego dreny przykryte są naturalną warstwą filtrującą piasku. Po przefiltrowaniu przez tą warstwę woda dopływa drenami do studni zbiorczej ujęcia i przez umieszczoną tam pompownię przesyłana jest do stacji uzdatniania, doprowadzającej wodę do stanu pozwalającego na użytkowanie jej na potrzeby domowe.

Section of the Vistula is located between the bridges Łazienkowski and Siekierkowskim an area of water intake. There are municipal water intakes for both the left bank and right bank of Warsaw. Water consumption is a superior feature on this stretch of the river and all the activities carried out on it are subordinate. Therefore, this section takes care of the Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji (MPWiK).
The team is made up of: main water intakes, known as, Fat Katherine and six supplemental water intakes located at both sides of the river. All water intakes are underground and operate on the principle of infiltration. Water is drawn from a sandy soil layer situated under the bottom of the river, by means of the tubing with a diameter of 300-400 mm and a length of 100-400 m arranged at a depth of 4-7 m below the bottom and against the tubing are covered with a layer of natural sand filter. After filtration through a layer of water that drains flows into the well and the cumulative intake pumping station located there is sent to treatment plants, water supply to the state, which allows to use it for household purposes.
