Geocache Description:

This cache is a part of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's 100th Anniversary Geocaching Challenge. This program celebrates our 100th anniversary in 2015.

The 2015 installment of the Geocache Passport celebrates the forest preserves which were purchased between 1991 and 2015 . Collect 5 stickers from 8 participating caches hidden throughout DuPage County for a collectable Geocoin while supplies last. Passports will be available in the cache on a limited basis. For more information see the website www.dupageforest.org or call Fullersburg Woods at 630-850-8110.

This forest preserve was originally a recreation destination created by the Burlington Railroad.  The Railroad made money by offering excursion trains from Chicago to the Naperville location, earning money from both the ticket sales and the charges for use of the park itself.  The park had a food pavilion, grandstands for sports including foot races, baseball and other sports.  There was a dam on the river to create a lake for boating and swimming.  A merry-go-round was in operation there as well.  Newspaper accounts tell of groups of several thousand holding picnics and encampments at the park in the 1890s.

This preserve is jointly owned by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Naperville Park District.  In 2002, the Forest  Preserve purchased part of a trail easement from the City of Naperville.
