Un-like most regularly visited mountains around the Waikato and even further a field, there is a cache hidden near their trig stations. This mountain's geocache is about 120m for the trig station, and this just feels a little wrong, so I've placed one a bit closer.
There are numerous ways to get to the trig station, but we parked in the Karangahake Gorge car park, crossed the swing bridge and made our way up the Scotsman track, then turned left up the gravel road/track to the Karangahake Mountain Track which will be on your right. Along the Karangahake Mountain Track there will be a track on the left which isn't sign posted but easily seen (sorry I didn't take co-ordinates for the junctions). This is a more direct route to the summit but a lot steeper. Once at the summit you should be able to see your final destination. Head past the trig and you will be able to follow a un-marked track. Once your within about 15m of the cache, this is where it gets interesting.
You'll have to go bush and find your way on top to the cache location. There are drop off's all around the cache so be extremely careful, but you can reach the cache easily from solid ground. Sorry for the size of the cache it was the only one I had on me at the time of placement, so please use the spoiler photo.
