Geocache Description:

In Irish its "Carn Fhearadaigh" and is 448M High.

This Cache is located in Coilte's Forestry Lands, we ask you to respect and follow the Leave No Trace philosophy. It is about a 4 Kilometer hike from the Waypointed Garrane Car park which is off the L1533 Ardpatrick to Ballyhea road and has a Yellow Man Ballyhoura Way Marker opposite its junction pointing the way. From Garrane Car Park, follow the Yellow Man Markers (Ballyhoura Way) until within 'reach' of the top where you will see a rough track to the summit veering away from the Ballyhoura Way which circles around the summit. There are numerous other ways of getting there.....just mention which way in your log. Note; I haven't heard of it happening there before but one Geocacher below has had his car broken into at the Upper Garrane car park so ensure no valuables in sight, leave empty glove box open etc. Cairn Feardaigh, a hilltop fort on Carron Mountain (448 metres high), is 85 metres in diameter, with walls three metres thick and two metres high. The fort dates to the Iron Age (500BC-400AD). Several battles are recorded as having taken place there. A battle, in 837, was described in an ancient manuscript as a great slaughter of 'gentiles'. On that occasion, Munster was invaded by a hoard of foreigners. They marched into the kingdom where they were defeated at Cairn Feardaigh by the native Gaels.
