Among the Wildflowers Riverbox
This Riverbox was created by artist Katlin Rothacher of Hartville, Ohio, in 2011. The artwork is part of the Riverbox Tributary project. She is a graduate of Kent State University with a B.F.A. in Textile Arts. Her interests in form has pushed her to create dimensional woven structures and fabric sculptures.
Her work is strongly influenced by her experiences with the natural world and the beauty that can be found there. Her artwork also includes recycled and found materials. Through discovery and interaction with her Riverbox, Rothacher hopes to convey the message of beauty in the natural world and to inspire the need to be “green” in order to preserve the nature that surrounds us.
Ted Kaltenbach Park: Prairie habitat
Ted Kaltenbach park was developed in 1989 and was named in memory of Ted Kaltenbach, a long time Washington Township trustee.
A two-acre demonstration prairie was developed in 2003, just a short hike from the park’s playground.
The prairie is surrounded by a 2/3 mile paved walking trail and includes a sampling of some of the species that once inhabited the tall grass prairies of Ohio.
Interpretive signage highlights the prairie’s attributes, providing information about the plants, insects, birds, and wildlife. Boxes have been installed nearby to encourage nesting of the Eastern Bluebird. Butterflies are often discovered fluttering in and out of the trees and tall grasses.
