Bardney Methodist Church

The first Methodist Society in Bardney was formed in 1785 with meetings being held in the homes of the people.

It is believed that the first society met in 1809 at the house of William and Mary Smith (currently 37 Station Road).

In 1834 the membership was 99 persons and by 1859 it was 143.

The chapel most people remember was built in 1837, at a cost of £1,069. Access was by the passage way from Station Road (between Nos. 25 and 27).

In 1887, the first pipe organ was acquired from Mint Lane Chapel, Lincoln at a cost of £41.

The current organ was donated by Alderman Varlow in 1899.

The Lecture Hall was built and opened on 4th December 1903.

In 1909, the front facia of the Hall was structurally modified.

In 1964, Bardney circuit was re-joined with Horncastle.

In 1972, the 450-seat chapel was demolished, due to dry rot in the timbers.

At this time the Lecture Hall was adapted for use as a worship centre.
-
The chapel site remained empty until November 1976 when work began on a general purpose hall which enabled the former Lecture Hall to be used solely as a worship centre.

Just find the date on the front of the Church above the door.
Starting left to right will give you 4 digits. 1st digit=A etc
The Cache is at N53. AG.EED W000. AB.EFE
A= 1st
B= 2nd
C= 3rd
D= 4th
E= 1st mult by 2 plus 4th
F= 2nd minus 1st
G= 4th minus 1st
As for the cache, you will have to walk for it!
