Cache is place at the site of the formerBuzzard Butte lookout site and will qualify for GC15CVW, the Oregon Fire Lookout Challenge. Originally a 30' tower built in 1930's, then rebuilt as 40' tower in 1948. It was destroyed in a storm in 1955 and never rebuilt. There are still old steps, a foundation, a benchmark and several reference marks left.
The first of hopefully several new lookout site hides here in Western Oregon. Ace and Fly Baby started and finished the Oregon lookout Challenge last summer, and Fly Baby enjoyed it so much, that she is planning a sequel cache for the "next 50" caches.I took Farmer Creek Road from 101, which turns into 1034 up to the site, and came back down on the 1004 road which ends/begins on Sand Lake Road. Both are family car accessible and neither is a short straight shot, so your choice. Buzzard Creek "road" that goes to the lookout site, is actually a trail now, so you will have about a 2 mile hike round trip, the first 2/3 of which are basically level.
