In The Farmland, poultry are raised using either intensive farming techniques or free range farming. Additionally, there is a growing movement for small scale micro-flocks or 'backyard chickens'. Small numbers of hens (usually no more than a dozen) are kept in suburban or urban residential areas to control bugs, provide chicken waste as fertilizer in gardens, and produce high-quality eggs and meat.
Chickens are sometimes kept as pets and can be tamed by hand feeding, but roosters can sometimes become aggressive and noisy, although aggression can be curbed with proper handling. Certain breeds, such as silkies and many bantam varieties, are generally docile and are often recommended as good pets around children with disabilities. Some people find chickens' behaviour entertaining and educational.
The Cache
The container is a plastic tube. Initial contents include only a log. Be sure to bring your own writing implement.
In winter, the trail is used extensively by snowmobilers. Be watchful for snowmobile (snow machine) traffic as it can exceed 60 mph.
During hunting season, high-visibility apparel is recommended as part of the trail flanks a wildlife management area where hunting is permitted.
NOTE: This cache may not be SUMMER friendly. No maintenance, including weed control, is performed during summer months.
