昔々、稲毛田に荷見玄同（はすみげんどう）という、人の良いお医者さんがいました。
ある夜、玄同先生がお酒を飲んでいると、みすぼらしい身なりの男がやって来ました。「先生、うちの女房が難産で大変苦しんでおります。先生のお力を貸してください」心の優しい玄同先生は、見捨てるわけにはいきません。深夜、男の道案内で男の家に行きました。
そうすると、男の女房が布団で寝ていましたが、今にも死にそうです。玄同先生は「なぜもっと早く知らせないのじゃ。このままでは本当に死んでしまうぞ！」玄同先生は、家人にあれこれ指示すると、治療に取り掛かりました。
そして、夜もしらじらと明けた頃、五人の玉のような赤ん坊が生まれました。男と女房はたいそう喜んで、なにかお礼をと言いましたが、玄同先生は「治療代はいいから、母親に十分栄養を取らせなさい。」と言って、帰っていきました。
家に戻った玄同先生は、疲れがたまったのか、そのまま寝てしまいました。その後、玄同先生が目覚めると懐に小判が一枚入っていました。玄同先生はやはり、昨夜一晩中キツネのお産に立ち会い、そして小判はキツネがお礼によこしたものらしかった。
それから、何日かして玄同先生が道を歩いているとあの夫婦のキツネと五匹の可愛らしい子ギツネが現れた。夫婦のキツネは何度も頭を下げると、子ギツネを連れて山の中へ帰っていきましたとさ。
「ハハァ、おらが山のご先祖様よ、コンコンチキチキ大明神。ハハァ、コンコンチキチキ大明神。」はこの話に出てくる老婆さまが唱えていたおまじないらしいです。
