Geocache Description:

Loughgall National School 1862smiley

This is our first geo we have placed and have chosen this old primary school. My Mum went to this primary but due to lack of funding and numbers it was closed in 1996. It was a vibrant, successful school in its day and produced many successful students. When my mum was attending there were no toilets as we know. The girls loo consisted of a plank with a hole cut out which went into a shuck which was regularly cleaned by the local caretaker, Matt Cullen. My mum says you definitely didn’t use it if it was a cold windy day! Later in years portaloos were placed. The school itself consisted of two rooms. One room housed Primary 1 to primary 5 and the other Primary 5 to 7.During my mums time the two teachers were Mrs McColgan (principal who taught P.5 to 7) and Mrs Smyth who taught P.1 to 4)At that time there were approx. 40 pupils attending.

The cache is a 3cms circular canister (byop)
