Please note that you are not expected to be there from 08:30. The seasonal weather means waiting around on Simonside could be rather chilly. I suggest arriving 09:00 at the earliest. As long as you there for 09:45 at maximum eclipse time, after which I imagine folks will start to drift off. Allow approximately 90 minutes walk from the car park.
You will need to be close to the Arctic Circle to experience a total eclipse, which is not the most convenient place to get to. Nevertheless, the Simonside Hills will hopefully give us a great perspective and has great views. There are also a couple of caches up here of interest.
The partial eclipse will begin at 8:30am, maximum eclipse being at 09:45 and ending at 10:45. To claim a smilie you need to be present at 09:45 for the moment of the maximum eclipse. This is the last solar eclipse visible from Europe for over a decade - the next one will be August 26th 2026.
There's a great web resource dedicated to this eclipse here : http://www.solareclipse2015.org.uk/
My generous thanks to Titus Adduxas whose idea this is, but unfortunately cannot join us this day.
