Geocache Description:

A loop around Longfield Hill and its surrounds, approximately 5.5 miles in length, with 28 caches plus a clamber too! Each cache will have its own D/T rating but the route as a whole is an undulating mixture of roads and paths through fields and woodland. The fields were muddy when we set it in February.

Having enjoyed walking a couple of the loop trails and setting some of our own one-off caches we decided it was time to lay down a series of our own. There seems to be few caches in the Longfield Hill area so that seemed a good place to start. As we started planning we found that not only was there a lack of caches, there was also a lack of footpaths. However, we think we have created a nice walk for you, with equal variety of scenery and of cache styles and types from nano upwards and a few fun ones too.

Some can be completed as cache and dash and there are no parts where you are more than two or three caches from a road. We suggest it is completed in a clockwise direction as that is the way we walked it and the multi's will work far better that way. Alternative parking can be found along the way, although the one we would recommend would be by #13. If you were to start here, there is a handy pub about halfway around for sustenance (near #2).

Other caches you may like to include that are not too far off the main loop are; GC5JCRH 'Wave to the trains - toot, toot', GC5KTDO 'On the run - nearly home! Once the railway embankment works are finished there is GC208V2 'Longfield Hill View'.

Sign in the woods

From #19, take the footpath to the left up the field. Go through the gate, turn left and go about 8m up the road and enter the wood. Follow the track to the GZ. Update: a few changes have been made since first setting so probably best to do 19, 22, 21 and 20 in that order now.

At the coords (N51 22.749 E0 19.183) you will find a snap close container in the middle of the base of a double trunked tree (please replace as found). In it is a game for you to play. Hopefully you'll know the rules. Pinks and blues are the same so it doesn't matter which you use and there is a duplicate set too in case the damp gets to the original. There is a notebook if you need it but please take any answers with you! Please leave everything behind for subsequent players.
