Clara, Gattin von A. Nuss, gest. 16 Oct. 1881, Alter 45J. 9M. 4T.

The information on Clara's headstone is a mess. Apparently the stonecutter switched her birth and death dates (Clara's death record at the Auglaize County Probate Court and at St. John's Church in Fryburg both state that she died July 12). Her age listed on the headstone sort of makes sense for switching the two dates. Four days is the difference between the 16th and the 12th, but 9 months makes sense only if one counts forward from October to July, not backward. So not only did the stonecutter switch Clara's birth and death dates, he also counted both directions around the calendar when he calculated her age. He was not having a good day when he carved this stone.
