Geocache Description:

Oct 2017: Cache is now a bison tube with only a log. Please bring your own pen.

This cache takes you to the ‘bird blind’ back near the trail centre.

A ‘bird blind’ is a shelter, often camouflaged, that is used to observe wildlife, especially birds, at close quarters. Although hides or hunting blinds were once built chiefly as hunting aids, they are now commonly found in parks and wetlands for the use of bird watchers, ornithologists and other observers who do not want to disturb wildlife as it is being observed. A typical bird hide resembles a garden shed, with small openings, shutters, or windows built into at least one side to enable observation.

There are a whole bunch of birdhouses here, and you can observe birds here year-round!

This is a series of simple caches placed to give you an excuse to get out and enjoy this section of the Dundas Valley Conservation Area. They are all traditional caches, and there is no final, so enjoy the hike and find as many caches as you like. Parking is available and can be accessed from the main entrance to the Conservation Area on Governor’s Rd. Admission is $10 per vehicle and it’s well worth the price! You can check out the trail centre, the trains, the bird blind and of course, all the trails! Note: I named the caches as I placed them on a clockwise hike on the trail. The names might not make as much sense if you find them the other way.
