I was out walking through the woods with my little Springer companion when I came across an old tree that stood out like a sore thumb but oddly enough I had never noticed before even though I've walked this path on numerous occassions. Having recently found peigimccann's 'The Perfect Tree' cache (GC1FC71), I figured that this one must be the complete polar opposite of the perfect tree so decided to name him the Ugly Duckling and place a cache at his roots.
He looks like he passed away some time ago but as I'm placing this cache in Winter, it will be interesting to see if he's got any life left in him and will grow a marvelous coat of leaves for the Summer months, transforming him into a beautiful swan.
I've given this cache a terrain rating of 2.5 and it should be suitable for children but bear in mind that this was placed during the winter months when all the ferns had died back so care should be taken on approach as there are some old logs and trees that could potentially be a tripping hazard when the ferns grow back and ground visibility is reduced.
The cache is hidden just a short walk from the main path, is chock full of swag (at time of placing) and is big enough for TB's.
