Back in 2002, my wife decided to get me a dog for my birthday. She said I needed a dog, funny thing was, I didn't think the same and besides, I already had one, he was just living with my parents. Well, a couple of days later, a car pulls into the driveway and driver gets out and opens the back of the car and out jumps this great big dog. And so me and The Mutt began. We didn't know about geocaching back then but we still went on some cool adventures. Any time we would head out into the wilds he was a happy dog.
In 2009, my brother introduced us to geocaching and it was great! Me and The Mutt would go out and hike all day, go for long car rides and have a whole lot of fun. We both loved it. Kody figured the whole thing out and when I was signing a log or getting coordinates for a cache of our own, he would just sit nearby patiently, until I was done.
Slowly though, he started having trouble with his back legs. He couldn't walk as long as he use too and getting up from lying down was really hard for him. Our walks became shorter and laboured and eventually I had to start leaving him at home when I went out to do any caching. Finally, in July 2014, he got to the point where he just couldn't function anymore and I had to put him down. He now rests on our fireplace mantle beside my other dog King.
I miss him every day.
