Geocache Description:

La Ruta de les Ermites

Altea has a lot of beautiful ermites: small chapels located in and around the town. Each year in march they celebrate "La Ruta de les ermites". Each chapel is visited and concerts are given. View the Promo video Ruta de les Ermites 2013

La ermita de Sant Isidro

This chapel is dedicated to Saint Isidro. He is the patron saint of the farmers.
St. Isidore was born around 1070 near Madrid, Spain, into a peasant family. He was baptized Isidore in honor of the famous archbishop of Seville. His biography was written about 150 years after his death. Much of it deals with miracles associated with his name. He made God and practicing virtue a part of his workday. St. Isidore the farmer, as he is sometimes called, is remembered to this day.

The chapel has been built very recently, in 1999 and is one of the chapels in the yearly Ruta de les ermites d'Altea.
