CITO weekend will be here before you know it. In case you haven’t heard, CITO stands for Cache In Trash Out. It’s the geocacher’s approach to keeping our game board (i.e. the entire planet) in great shape. On the weekend of April 25 and 26, geocachers around the globe will gather together, pick up trash, remove invasive species, repair trails and more!
The Jetty here at Alamitos Bay is covered in trash and needs your help! Attending this event will not only earn you the satisfaction of helping the planet but will also earn you a handy dandy souvenir! We will be meeting at the posted coordinates at 10:15am on SUNDAY (4/26/2015). We will then organize into groups and start collecting trash at 10:30am. We will pick up as much as possible for an hour. I will be providing the trash bags but you will need to bring gloves, sun protection, and water. I hope to be able deal with all the trash we collect myself but in the scenario we collect more than my car can hold, you might need to bring your bag home with you.
Take note of the terrain rating. You can choose to stay where it is flat and dirt, or you can go onto the jetty. Also take note at the parking coordinates and the trailhead coordinates.
We will have a contest during this event and a winner will be chosen after we finish picking up trash. All you have to do is find the most interesting object as you CITO and save it as your entry. The winner will either win a cache container or a trackable (which I’ll determine when the date comes along).
I've put together a list of really fun geocaches that are close to this event. If you haven't done some of them I suggest you find them after the event! Maybe you can even get some friends to come along! Click here!
