Geocache Description:

Old Smoky Row Cemetery in Hot Springs State Park dates back to the 1890s.

Located in a gulch east of the Star Plunge, Smoky Row was living quarters for early visitors to the hot springs. They camped in crude stone-front dugouts carved into the hillside, as well as tents during warmer months. The area got its name from travelers who came into the vally in search of the hot springs. Smoke from the numerous wood burning stoves was a signal to travelers that they had reached the hot springs and named the area "Smoky Row". With a creation of a new cemetery north of Thermopolis in 1900, this cemetery was no longer needed and thus stopped being used. This small cemetery has 9 residents inturned in it. Ollie Kosher, Jack Berry, Jesse Burson, Ralph Gillerno, Augernone Jane, Eton Perry, I.A. McGrey, an unknown woman, and an unknown man.

The only legible tombstone in the cemetery belongs to R. Gillerno.

You will be hunting a green matchstick container hidden in the rocks. Snowfall in winter might make this cache a little harder to find.
