A park and grab with the option of a 7 km walk in the woods.
Glenanaar is situated on the Cork-Limerick border in the southern Ballyhoura Mountains. It is long associated with Canon Patrick Augustine Sheehan (1852-1913) a cleric and writer invariably referred to as Canon Sheehan of Doneraile, mainly because he wrote almost all of his major works while he was there as Parish Priest. In 1905 he published Glenanaar, a novel based on the 1829 conspiracy trials in which Daniel O’Connell successfully defended peasants accused of agrarian crimes. It is possible to download a copy of this work.
A beautiful 7 km walk called the Canon Sheehan Loop starts from the car park where this cache is hidden. There are 6 other caches on the loop. The walk is along a river bank with some steep ground so be careful with the little ones.
IF PLANNING ON DOING THE SERIES ON THE CANNON SHEEHAN LOOP; 1 THE ONE CACHE ON THE ORIGINAL LOOP THAT IS AFFECTED BY WORK FOR A WIND FARM HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE AMENDED ROUTE 2 look up at the roots AND wishing well SHOULD BE TAKEN AS THE FIRST AND THE LAST IN THE SERIES; some cachers seem to have gone from one directly to the other and had to double back on the loop.
