Geocache Description:

Sueltenfuss Crossing geocache is near the old Sueltenfuss Crossing on the Guadalupe River. It is named for German immigrant Casper Sueltenfuss.

FM 3351 crosses the Guadalupe River at Sueltenfuss crossing. (Technically the crossing is about a quarter mile west of FM 3351). It is named for Casper Sueltenfuss, a German immigrant born on April 15th, 1844 in Dusseldorf on the Rheine. His father, John Sueltenfuss, came to Texas in 1848 and Casper, his oldest son, arrived the first of January 1860 at the age of 15. Casper worked for his father until 1863. He participated in the Civil War, with the Union, in the First Texas Cavalry Regiment (a Regiment composed of Mexicans, hill country Germans, and Irishmen who participated in the defense of New Orleans.) Casper Sueltenfuss settled in Schiller, Texas (which no longer exists today.) At the time, Schiller included the land of Waterstone, across the fence from this geocache and land West of FM 3351 on the Guadalupe River. Sueltenfuss worked for Eugene Voelker and in 1867 he married Voelker’s oldest daughter Anna. When Eugene Voelker died, Sueltenfuss became the “man of the house”. Sueltlenfuss served as the postmaster of Schiller, Texas and enlarged his ranch over the years. His home still stands today just West of here in what is now the Club Outfitters in Cordillera. Sueltenfuss was a member of Herman Sons and other German Associations. He donated the building materials for St Peter’s first church in Boerne. Casper Sueltenfuss passed away April 14th, 1916, survived by his widow, 6 sons, and 3 daughters. FTF coin is in cache but we ask that you not keep the FTF coin, but rather, place it in a new geocache that you make.
