Tamiami Trail "Triathlon" - Paddle

WHO: anyone and everyone
WHERE: Sandfly Island
TIME: 9:30-10:00AM
We will meet in the parking lot of the posted coordinates at the visitor center around 8:00 A.M. If all goes well, we will depart by 8:30 A.M. It should take us approximately 1 hour to get to the island. We will gather on the island and enjoy the short hiking trail before departing back to the visitor center.
Let's finish off this 3rd Annual "Triathlon" with a nice 3.5 mile paddle to Sandfly Island and back across Chokoloskee Bay. To complete the canoe/kayak leg of the triathlon participants will start from the Gulf Coast Visitor Center located in Everglades City. Check in at the visitor center to get maps, directions, and up to date tide and weather information. Paddlers should wear closed toed shoes to protect their feet from cuts on oysters, rocks, and shells. Sun protection and extra water are recommended as well as insect repellant in the spring, summer, and fall. Participants may bring their own equipment, rent equipment at the visitor center or from other vendors within Everglades City. There is no entrance fee associated with the Gulf Coast Visitor Center. Bring your camera with fresh batteries. We will be going at a relaxed leisurely pace to take in the sights. Group photo and logbook signing at Sandfly Island
