Geocache Description:

Schiller Texas

Site of Schiller Texas in the 1800s and early 1900s

Schiller Texas

In the late 1800s and early 1900s this region was called Schiller. At this time postal names defined communities and this is how the Schiller region came into being.  Casper Sueltenfuss (for which Sueltenfuss crossing is named) had been running the Guadalupe Post Office at his home prior to 1890, but legend has it that frustration abounded because the mail intended for Guadalupe County (founded in 1846) was getting mixed up with his mail.  So he petitioned for a new name, and in 1890, his choice of Schiller P. O. became reality. The Schiller P. O. operated for 17 years and this region predated the accumulation of land by the Brown family into KWW Ranch and even the founding of Bergheim (1901).  When the Browns purchased the Sueltenfuss land during their acquisition era, it became part of KWW.  The epicenter of Schiller (now part of eastern Cordillera Ranch) is less than 2 miles from WaterStone’s western boundary.  Due to its close proximity, when Schiller defined our region, WaterStone’s 1300+ acres were always considered part of it.

Casper’s inspiration for naming this region was a prominent German writer named Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759 – 1805), usually known as Friedrich Schiller, who wore many hats: poet, philosopher, historian, and dramatist.

Cache is a small geocaching container.
