Geocache Description:

Come and spend a few hours, or longer, with us on Port Bawn beach on the beautiful island of Inchcailloch in the Loch Lomond National Park. We will be on the beach from 12.30 for approximately 2 hrs, much longer if the weather is good.  Look out for the large gazebo on the beach.

Port Bawn has a jetty and walkway onto the beach specifically designed for wheelchair users, please enquire with the ferry company if you need to use this facility.

Inchcailloch is the largest island (52 hectares) of the Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve and is managed by Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority, with support from Scottish Natural Heritage. It lies in the south east corner of Loch Lomond, within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and is cloaked by oak woodland which is particularly important because of its rich flora and distinctive communities of mosses, lichens and birds.

Special thanks to the National Park for allowing us to have the event. They have asked that we respect the Island and follow these simple steps: Take ALL your litter home. Never cut down or damage trees. Keep your dog under close control especially during the breeding season (1 April to 1 August). Use a stove or leave no trace of a camp fire. Respect your surroundings and others around you

When you visit the island please come well prepared with sturdy footwear, waterproofs, packed lunch or BBQ, water (there is no running water on the island), sunscreen and most importantly midge repellent!

There are compost toilets beside the beach. As there is no refuse collection on the island you will have to take ALL your litter and disposable BBQs home. There are recycling facilities and bins in the Balmaha car park.

If you don't have your own boat or kayak, you can either hire small boats from Balmaha Boat Yard or be ferried there and back (www.balmahaboatyard.co.uk) or from the west shore of the loch with Cruise Loch Lomond (www.cruiselochlomond.co.uk). I am unsure how long you are given on the island, so please check.

I have enquired about a group booking, I will make an announcement on this page when I get a response.

The ferry drops off at the pier on the east side of the island, known as the North Jetty. Please allow about 20 mins to walk from there to Port Bawn on the west side of the island.

Numbers are restricted as I have to let the Park know how many plan to visit in advance, and they will let me know if the number is ok, so if you intend coming along please say how many will be coming in your 'will attend' log asap.

Fingers crossed for a sunny day.
