This cache is located just off the Meadow Loop Trail.

To visit, park at the Arabia Alliance parking lot on Klondike Road, where you can grab a trail map. From there, walk a short distance on the PATH Trail to a mowed path that leads to the Vaughters' Farm barn. At the barn, follow the south fork of the Meadow Loop Trail, which is marked with orange-tipped guide posts.

Bales on Vaughters' Farm Meadow - Twice a year, the grass is cut and baled, which enhances the scenic view.

Stephenson Creek: A Hidden Gem in the Nature Preserve

Stephenson Creek is one of the smallest streams in the South River Watershed. It starts at Vaughters' Farm, which is in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. The creek begins in a narrow strip of woods that stretches towards Klondike Road, near the barn, and ends in a small, wet meadow. You can tell it's a wet meadow because the grass there is different, and it can tolerate being wet.

The creek flows south through the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve and meets Pole Bridge Creek before joining the South River. Because it’s mostly inside the Nature Preserve, the stream is protected from the harm of development, which helps keep the water clear and clean.

The creek flows into two beautiful lakes, Retreat House Lake and Arabia Lake, and also feeds a large wetland area. You can see signs of beavers, especially from Retreat House Lake down to where it meets Pole Bridge Creek. Both lakes have fish, and fishing is especially popular at Arabia Lake, which is more than 100 years old.

Exploring the Area

There’s a geocache near Arabia Lake (GC135BC - AMNHA: Arabia Lake), that will have more information about the lake.
