Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES BUT THEY MIGHT MAKE A GOOD PLACE TO START.

It's Magnetic.

This geocache is based on a bit of Papago Park historical trivia. Did you know that in 1914 what is today known as Papago Park was designated as Papago-Saguaro National Monument? At the time locals interested in seeing this area developed as a national park took it upon themselves to build a concrete picnic table at an interesting view point within the confines the newly created Papago-Saguaro National Monument which they hoped would become a national park. Unfortunately congress did not see things their way and on April 7, 1930 rescinded its national monument status because they did not consider the area suitable. That ended the national park dream for the local supporters.

The cache page picture shows the remains of that old picinic table. I placed this geocache to recognize this somewhat obscure bit of history.

The geocache can be found by using your GPSr to get a 184+/- degree bearing (go south). A Phoenix is the starting point from which you should take your bearing. Once you get it you then travel 25 Smoots in that direction to GZ.

A special thanks goes to Park Ranger Dan for alerting me to this bit of trivia
