Geocache Description:

 photo IGO Bucky Salutes Final_zpszvblfsus.jpg

This cache is at the posted coordinates!

Last year, a brave explorer named Bucky, and his faithful companion IGO, sent you out on a journey to discover murals along the territories and trails of the great state of Iowa.

This year Bucky has been thinking about the freedoms we all enjoy, and what it takes for us to be able enjoy those freedoms. As he was caching across the great state of Iowa he started to notice some memorials that told of the sacrifices that many people have made for those freedoms.

Now, Bucky wants you to visit these memorials, and see the history of Iowa for yourselves. Since Bucky’s map of the Iowa counties has been divided into 4 color groups, those are the 4 prize groups we will be using. We will also award a prize to someone that finds all 100 memorials. You will need to take a picture of each memorial to get credit for visiting. Bucky found a lot of pictures on the internet, so you either need to be in the picture, or have a “mascot” in the picture to prove you were there. You must also include the waypoint name (County) with your pictures. If you do not meet all the rules, your picture will not be recorded.

Send your pictures to buckysalutes@gmail.com and earn an entry into each drawing.

Visit www.iowageocachers.org to download a map and GPX file of all the memorials.

There are several types of memorials for you to find. There are all-war memorials, Civil War memorials, memorials for specific wars or conflicts, parks with several memorials, and even a blank freedom rock that will be completed this year. Some of the memorials are grand structures, and others are small solemn reminders of the greatest sacrifice.

Starting today, and continuing through August 31st, 2015, you can visit as many memorials as you wish. A separate prize drawing will be held for each of the 4 color groups of counties. Each memorial you find will make you eligible for the prize drawing for that group. One winner will be drawn for each of the 4 color groups, and 1 winner will be drawn from those that find all 100 memorials. The drawing will be held at Hike and Seek 2015 in Dubuque this coming September.

You will find the GPX for the list of qualifying Murals on the related web page!
