This sandstone supports heathlands, but not in very much soil. However looking about you can see the lichen and mosses starting their life and forming a tapestry of mosses which attract the dust etc and so the heath starts to grow. You can often see in patches of moss, a single tea-tree starting the process.
I enjoy this part of the walk, a real hard desert.
