Geocache Description:

St Winnow Wander is a beautiful walk through some of Cornwall's prettiest inland landscapes - woods, creeks, rivers, ancient buildings and historical footpaths. It is a walk of approximately 5 miles and should take about 3 hours.

There are 11 caches to find and in addition you will walk by the 6 Ethy Woods Ramble Series and the St Winnow Church Cache GCN89T.

Warning: - one short section, about half way around, is on the foreshore and at the peak of high tide is impassable. Please check the tide times HERE

All directions are given assuming you are walking the series in order from 1 to 11 - this is the easiest walk - any uphill bits are done at the beginning and the views are best from this direction.

The walk is all on well marked public footpaths but it can be muddy and wet in places - wellies or substantial walking boots are essential during winter and after rain.

All 11 of the caches are placed within 3 metres of the footpaths and are designed to be easy finds - the walk is the thing.

Tree cover may present problems in some places but the hints should solve any uncertainty.

From Cache #4 walk down the muddy, slippery track past some sileage bales - heading in the direction of the church.

After passing through two gates you will emerge on the road in the ancient hamlet of St Winnow with its beautiful church and old farm buildings.

In the summer there is often a snack van here and there is also an interesting old farm museum. The hamlet dates back to the Domesday Book and there were a number of battles fought in this area during the English Civil War.

The gate into the churchyard is just along the road and you need to go in here if you want to collect the information to do the St Winnow Church Multi Cache - GCN89T. Walk on past the church and down through the boatyard - in the winter, quite a few sailing boats are stored here.

Follow the path all the way down to the slipway and onto the river foreshore where you will see a footpath way mark sending you left. This next section of the walk can be under water at very high tides but if you are at least an hour either side of high water you should find it passable without difficulty. At low water the river mud banks are a haven for feeding wading birds.

Walk along the foreshore to the next cache location.

The cache here is a small click lock box in a camo bag with room for TBs.

Mind your step when retrieving the cache - the rocks and stones under foot can be slippery.
