Geocache Description:

St Winnow Wander is a beautiful walk through some of Cornwall's prettiest inland landscapes - woods, creeks, rivers, ancient buildings and historical footpaths. It is a walk of approximately 5 miles and should take about 3 hours.

There are 11 caches to find and in addition you will walk by the 6 Ethy Woods Ramble Series and the St Winnow Church Cache GCN89T.

Warning: - one short section, about half way around, is on the foreshore and at the peak of high tide is impassable. Please check the tide times HERE

All directions are given assuming you are walking the series in order from 1 to 11 - this is the easiest walk - any uphill bits are done at the beginning and the views are best from this direction.

The walk is all on well marked public footpaths but it can be muddy and wet in places - wellies or substantial walking boots are essential during winter and after rain.

All 11 of the caches are placed within 3 metres of the footpaths and are designed to be easy finds - the walk is the thing.

Tree cover may present problems in some places but the hints should solve any uncertainty.

From Cache #5 carry on for another 150 metres along the foreshore - some interesting marine detritus can be seen at the high water line.

Just after a way mark post standing on the foreshore the footpath takes you off the foreshore, over a boardwalk and stile and into the fields.

It is a fairly long walk to the next GZ but your St Winnow Church Multi Information should prove useful along here!!

The footpath takes you into the Forestry Commission West Wood with some spectacular views through the trees over the Fowey River.

At the GZ you should be alongside a tall holly tree close to the footpath on the left - immediately opposite on the other side of the track there is a tall oak tree which has a V in it at about 6 feet up.

This oak tree, on the lower side of the track, is in the form of a Giant's Catapult (without the elastic!!).

The cache has been placed in accordance with the GAGB FC Peninsular District Guidelines - the woods here are designated as Open Access Land and are NOT on the FC exclusion list.
