Wartburg was founded in the 1840s by George Gerding, a land speculator who bought up large tracts of land in what is now Morgan County with plans to establish a series of German colonies in the Cumberland region. German and Swiss immigrants arrived at the site by traveling from New Orleans up the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Emory rivers. They named the settlement after Wartburg Castle in Germany. Wartburg was officially incorporated in 1851. While it is the county seat it's the county seat of a county with a very small population. According to the 2010 census the population of Wartburg is 913.
I'm moved this cache about 50' down the road from it's original location and best viewing area (I've updated waypoint to reflect this) after it went missing again this week. This is the fifth time it's went missing so going to look for some better ways to conceal soon. This is now a small tricky container with log only so BYOP and tweezers might even be necessary. I've upped the difficulty as well since the new container blends in much better..
