Geocache Description:



The Abbott-Detroit was a early 1900s American Automobile Company that used 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder Continental engine in their cars. In addition the Abbott-Detroit also used 8 cylinder Herschell-Spillman engines. By 1916 the company changed its name to Consolidated Car Co. and production was running at 15 to 20 units per day.To improve on this figure that the company moved to a larger factory in Cleveland, Ohio and changed its name once again. However, by 1918 they declared bankruptcy. The Cleveland built cars were known simply as The Abbott.

1911 Abbott-Detroit models included a model B five passenger Touring Car $1500.00, Roadster $1500.00, four door Dimi-Tonneau with detachable tonneau $1650, Coupe $2350. In the 1911 advertising shown above the Abbott-Detroit was "The Up-To-The-Minute Car".

Accessories that could be found on the Abbott-Detroit included Bosch High Tension or Spitdorf Dual ignition system, complete electric head lights front and rear lights.

Known 1912 Abbott-Detroit Models: Three different Model-44 (1) Seven passenger 4 door Touring that sold for $1800.00. (2) 4 door Demi-Tonneau that sold for $1775.00. (3) 4 door Limousine fully equipped for $3,000.00. In addition three cheaper cars was built and know as the Model 34 (1) Four door Touring car less top and windshield sold for $1350.00. (2) Four door Roadster also less top and windshield sold for $1275.00. (3) Colonial Coupe fully equipped and very popular in 1912 sold for $2150.00.

To enter Belle Isle State Park you will need either a Michigan State Park Passport or a day pass. Residents are $11.00 per year, non residence is $31.00 per year and the daily pass is $9.00 per day.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has given the Belle Isle Cachers exclusive permission to place all geocaches on Belle Isle State Park. Please be respectful to the park, its management and all other visitors during your time here.

This park is very busy year round, please use extreme stealth at all times as every area is being used by others. Rock hides give great views around the island, we have marked the cache location to help with your finds so please replace just as you found them.
