Crown The Detroit Auto Vehicle Co. Detroit, MI 1905-1906

The Detroit Auto Vehicle Co. was organized in the summer of 1904 to build an American Automobile called the Crown.

F. H. Blackman was president, Joseph L. Hudson was vice president, H. H. Lind was secretary and B. Wuryburger was treasurer. Joseph Lowthian Hudson (1846-1912) was vice president of The Detroit Auto Vehicle Co. In 1909 Hudson supplied capital for the establishment of Roy D. Chapin's automotive venture, which Chapin named the Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan in honor of Joseph L. Hudson.

A prototype vehicle was on the road in early 1905. Production commence when The Detroit Auto Vehicle Co. acquired the Detroit Novelty Machine Co. factory located at 65-71 Catherine Street in Detroit, MI. A disagreement on the purchase price of the Detroit Novelty Machine Co. factory was the reason that The Detroit Auto Vehicle Co. went under.

A two passenger Crown Runabout and a side entrance five passenger Touring Car was produced. The Crown Runabout was equipped with a 2 cylinder 12 horsepower engine. The Crown Touring Car was equipped with a 4 cylinder 24 horsepower engine. Both American Automobiles had a Friction Transmission.

In addition to a Crown Runabout and Touring Car The The Detroit Auto Vehicle Co. built a popular Crown Delivery Car. It was equipped with a 2 cycle, 2 cylinder engine that developed 14 horsepower. Carrying capacity was 1500 pounds and was priced at $1160.00.

To enter Belle Isle State Park you will need either a Michigan State Park Passport or a day pass. Residents are $11.00 per year, non residence is $31.00 per year and the daily pass is $9.00 per day.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has given the Belle Isle Cachers exclusive permission to place all geocaches on Belle Isle State Park. Please be respectful to the park, its management and all other visitors during your time here.

This park is very busy year round, please use extreme stealth at all times as every area is being used by others. Rock hides give great views around the island, we have marked the cache location to help with your finds so please replace just as you found them.
