D. A. C. The Detroit Air Cooled Co. 1922-1923

The Detroit Air Cooled Co. was established in the spring of 1922 by W. J. Doughty in Detroit, Michigan. Their sales office was located at 3745 Cass Avenue in Detroit. The former plant of the Harron Motor Company in Wayne, Michigan was purchased October 1, 1922.

D. A. C. Touring Cars, Phaeton and Sedans were made in 1922 and 1923 only. W. J. Doughty, was President and General Manager of the Detroit Air Cooled Car Co. Charles F. Remington was Vice-president and G. R. Tremolada the engineer that designed the D.A.C. automobiles.

In February of 1922 a D. A. C. Touring Car prototype appeared at the Detroit Auto Show and in December a Sedan was exhibited in New York and Chicago. Very few D. A. C. automobiles were made. The DAC Phaeton model sold for $1,250, the Touring Car for $1,700, and sedan $1,750. Bodies for the D. A. C. were specially designed out of aluminum and made by John McArthur in Detroit.

The D. A. C. was equipped with a six cylinder engine. It was a interesting development in air cooled design with a staggered Vee arrangement of six cylinders. The design permitted air to be directed to each cylinder in equal volume and at the same temperature.

To enter Belle Isle State Park you will need either a Michigan State Park Passport or a day pass. Residents are $11.00 per year, non residence is $31.00 per year and the daily pass is $9.00 per day.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has given the Belle Isle Cachers exclusive permission to place all geocaches on Belle Isle State Park. Please be respectful to the park, its management and all other visitors during your time here.

This park is very busy year round, please use extreme stealth at all times as every area is being used by others. Rock hides give great views around the island, we have marked the cache location to help with your finds so please replace just as you found them.
