The Sommer Motor Co. Detroit, Michigan 1905-1907

In the spring of 1904 The Sommer Motor Co. of Detroit, Michigan was organized by Herman A. Sommer and William J. Sommer as a successor to the Hammer-Sommer Auto Carriage Company.

The 1905 Sommer Model E was a five passenger Touring Car with a detachable tonneau. It was built on an 83 inch wheelbase and a tread of 56 inches. The 1905 Sommer Model E accessories & features included a brass horn, tools, two solar side lamps, solar tonneau lamps, phare solar headlight. The body color was dark green or olive. The wheels were wood artillery 30 inches x 3 1/2 inches. Tires were diamond or G & J mounted on detachable rims.

The 1905 Sommer was equipped with a water cooled four cycle double cylinder opposed engine that developed 15 horsepower. It had a bore of 4 inches and a stroke of 5 inches. Each cylinder head is cast in one piece. The transmission was a planetary type with two forward and reverse gears. It had a chain drive from engine shaft to rear axle. Steering provided by Brown Lipe. Brakes by Raymond double band on rear axle and operated by foot lever. The frame was made of pressed steel with elliptic springs.

To enter Belle Isle State Park you will need either a Michigan State Park Passport or a day pass. Residents are $11.00 per year, non residence is $31.00 per year and the daily pass is $9.00 per day.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has given the Belle Isle Cachers exclusive permission to place all geocaches on Belle Isle State Park. Please be respectful to the park, its management and all other visitors during your time here.

This park is very busy year round, please use extreme stealth at all times as every area is being used by others. Rock hides give great views around the island, we have marked the cache location to help with your finds so please replace just as you found them.
