Geocache Description:

Sidcup - Baptist Church

Another in the ever expanding Church Micro Series, started by Sadexploration.

Foots Cray Baptist Church (Church Micro 7428), which had been in existence since before 1836, created Sidcup Baptist Church as a “church plant” in November 1889. A church plant is a way of creating a new church with the support of an established church.

The church first met in Sidcup Public Hall in Hatherley Road and during the First World War it acquired the site in the Longlands area of Sidcup. The building was opened in January 1923. Plans to build a larger church were put on hold due to the financial circumstances of the late 1920s.

In the 1930s the church was very active with a Sunday School, Christian Endeavour, a choir, a Literary and Musical Society and even a tennis club. The congregation rose from 50 in 1923 up to 130 in 1939. In September 1940 the church buildings were bombed and were out of action for several months.

Improvements have been made to the original buildings, most recently in 2009/10 when the halls were redeveloped to make them suitable for the 21st century.

It would be charitable to call this a puzzle – consider a number associated with the church ABCDEFG. Then the cache, a small magnetic black tube, can be found at:

N51 (A+B) E . G E (F+F) --- E0 D E . G C D

You can check your solution here

The cache should be accessible for wheelchair users, but it may be a stretch to reach the container.

***** Congratulations to Far Away on the FTF *****
