The Tonto National Forest, Payson Ranger District's Monument Peak Trailhead is in need of a CITO event. Careless visitors have left fire rings and trash. The Forest Service will provide trash bags and logistical support. If enough folks sign up, we may be able to arrange for a visit from the friendly Recreation Specialist. (What about Smokey, did you say? - maybe next year!)
The Payson Puzzler will be there with bottled water, but it is always good to bring your own water too! Bring a light snack to share if you like. Bring a chair for yourself so we can sit and visit after we get the area spiffed up.
To get to the trailhead from the Highway 87 & Highway 260 intersection, go east on Hwy 260 for 0.3 miles to Granite Dells Road, at the light past Safeway. Turn right and head east on Granite Dells Road for 3.3 miles until the open turn-around area for parking on the east side of Granite Dells Road. Parking is limited at the trailhead itself; we may use parking areas further down the road, and if enough people show up we might split in two groups and also clean up part of the Boulder Loop.
The event starts at 9 AM, Sunday April 26, and ends at 11 AM. Hope to see you there!
