Late proterozoic rocks (~1000-750 MYA) are exposed along the northern bank of the River Torrens at Windor Gardens. The exposure is in a small disused and partially filled quarry adjacent to the Linear Park cycle path. The quarry face is approximately 25m long and 5m high. The quarry face is mixture of distinctly folded hard quartzite interbedded with sedimentary siltstone and phyllite. The dip direction of a small anticline (convex fold) is apparent.
Your earthscience task is to draw your own field sketch of the quarry face, which as every good geologist knows must include plenty of SNOT
1. SCALE such as a stick person or other suitable scale item.
2. NOTES or labels for the folded quartzite and sedimentary rock, showing the direction of dip and the bedding plane.
3. ORIENTATION, which direction you are looking. Your GPSr will show compass direction.
4. TITLE for your field sketch.
