This cache is located near, but not on, the summit of Dirty Shirt Peak, a finger ridge east of the divide between the Colville Valley to the west and the Pend Oreille Valley to the east. It can be approached from Burnt Valley Road near Chewelah WA from the west or Winchester Creek Road off of Flowery Trail Road near Usk WA from the east. Regular autos should have no trouble with the gravel roads and grades in the summer but high clearance vehicles would be advised in the spring and autumn. Be aware of forecasted weather conditions before embarking.These roads are not maintained for winter time use. This area is well used by hunters during the deer and elk seasons. In 2014 the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife designated a newly discovered gray wolf pack as the Dirty Shirt Pack. The cache site is within a non-motorized area and a moderate, .4 mile off trail hike with an elevation gain of 200 feet is necessary. The last 15 feet are the most vertical, but non-technical. The cache container is a Dirty Shirt themed, medium sized ammo can tucked into a small rock alcove on the north face of the peak. It is well stocked with outdoor items. It is best to hike around the peak from either the west or east and to approach the cache from the north. Please replace the container well back in its recess.
