House №3/14 on Ostozhenka st. is now known as the home of Filatov, or just "under the glass house." This apartment house, built by order of the merchant guild 3 Filatov, who owned a warehouse water and electrical supplies. In fact it is two houses. The left part of the four-storey was rebuilt in 1904 from an earlier building by architect Nirnzee. Right-hand side was built in 1907-1909 by architects Dubovsky and Arkhipov. Moldings, decorating the house are unique and nowhere in Moscow no longer occurs.
And what about a glass? – you may ask. If you look closely to the roof of the house, you can see that the corner turrets crowned just inverted glass. Modern glass less elegant than the old one, it appeared recently after the restoration of the building.
But from where the glass is appeared?
With its origins tied known Moscow legend. They say that the merchant Filatov was a big drinker. His affairs because of it got worse and worse, and, in the end, he had almost lost all his fortune. But he was able to stop and to quit addiction. And in honor of it the architect was commissioned to portray on the house upside-down glass.
In another variant the legend, the house built Filatov merchant father and said to his son, if you throw a drink, the house will be yours. Son showed prudence and drink thrown.
There is also a version of this legend. Mother merchant Filatov could not watch as her son becomes an inveterate drunkard. But none of her efforts could not get her son to stop drinking. One day she went to the priest, and he gave her advice. She had to build a house and hand over the apartment to cultural but not rich people for little money. And then the son will get rid of addiction. The woman did so, and her son really soon stopped drinking.
But perhaps this is only a legend. The merchant Filatov was a prominent member of the Moscow Old Believer community. And the Old Believers for drunkenness excommunicated. In this light, the inverted glass looks not as a sign of victory, but as a moral.
There is another version. Merchant Filatov did not have the money to buy out the land for construction. At that time it could afford Savva Morozov only. He was the most famous and richest manufacturer and Maecenas. And the whole story of the glass relate to him.
If we ignore the beautiful legends, it may be noted that the architect Dubovskiy - author the right side of the building with a glass, was a supporter of pseudo-gothic style. And this glass it's just a pseudo-gothic dome.

Дом №3/14 по улице Остоженка сейчас известен как дом Филатова, или просто, "дом под Рюмкой". Это доходный дом, построенный по заказу купца 3 гильдии Филатова, который владел складом водопроводных и электротехнических принадлежностей. По сути это два дома. Левая четырехэтажная часть перестроена в 1904 году из более раннего здания архитектором Нирнзее. Правая часть построена в 1907-1909 годах архитекторами Дубовским и Архиповым. Лепнина, украшающая дом, уникальна и нигде в Москве больше не встречается.
Причем же здесь рюмка, возможно, спросите Вы. Если присмотреться повнимательнее к крыше дома, то можно заметить, что угловую башенку как раз венчает перевернутая рюмка. Современная рюмка менее изящная, чем старая, она появилась недавно после реставрации здания.
Но откуда вообще взялась рюмка?
С ее происхождением связана известная московская легенда. Говорят, что купец Филатов был большой любитель выпить. Дела его из-за этого шли все хуже и хуже, и, в конце концов, он чуть было не лишился всего своего состояния. Но смог во время остановиться и бросить пагубную привычку. И в честь этого заказал архитектору изобразить на доме перевернутую рюмку.
По другому варианту легенды, дом построил отец купца Филатова и сказал сыну, мол, если бросишь пить, подарю дом тебе. Сын проявил благоразумие и пить бросил.
Есть еще вариант этой легенды. Мать купца Филатова не могла смотреть, как ее сын спивается. Но никакие ее усилия не могли заставить сына бросить пить. Однажды она обратилась к священнику, и тот дал ей совет. Она должна была построить дом и сдавать в нем квартиры за небольшие деньги людям культурным, но не богатым. И тогда сын избавиться от пагубной привычки. Женщина так и сделала, и ее сын действительно скоро бросил пить.
Но, возможно, все это только легенды. Ведь купец Филатов был видным членом московской старообрядческой общины. А у старообрядцев за пьянство отлучают от церкви. В этом свете перевернутая рюмка выглядит уже не как знак победы, а как нравоучение.
Есть еще одна версия. Купец Филатов не обладал такими деньгами, что бы выкупить участок под строительство. В то время это мог себе позволить только Савва Морозов, богатейший и известнейший промышленник и меценат. И вся история про рюмку относиться именно к нему.
Если отвлечься от красивых легенд, то можно отметить, что архитектор Дубовский, автор правой части здания с рюмкой, был приверженцем псевдоготического стиля. И рюмка это всего лишь псевдоготический купол.
